Construction

Our objective is to provide 4-5 homes a year to meet the increased need for decent affordable housing in Oconee County. To date, OCHFH has constructed over 100 houses. We have recently completed a 9-home community in Westminster.  We are excited to be building a community in West Union on Eastpoint Dr.  We have obtained 14 lots there and have completed eight homes to date.  We have several other homes started and will continue with the buildout of these lots until we reach the end.  We are always looking for volunteer help with the construction and we build on Mondays, Thursday, and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 11:30 am.  You don’t need to bring anything to the job site and we can put you to work.  Our homes are in various stages of completion, so there is lots to do and lots of variety in the work.  You can put in 105 Eastpointe Dr, West Union into your GPS and find the job site. Contact us by email to volunteer, learn about current construction sites or for any additional information.

A Habitat house in Oconee County costs approximately $80,000-$90,000 each. It is usually 1,000 to 1,150 square feet in size and has 3 to 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a living room, kitchen and dining area, and a detached storage shed. Construction is energy-efficient and meets all required codes and standards. Volunteers and prospective families provide most of the labor; individual and corporate donors provide money and materials. Partner families invest hundreds of hours of labor - sweat equity - into building their homes and the homes of others or working in our Resale Store.

After a $800 down payment, owner or owners repay the cost of housing materials, sub-contracts and land over a 30-year period. NO PROFIT is added to the cost of the house, and NO INTEREST is charged to the home purchaser. Mortgage payments go into a revolving fund that is used to build more houses.
